The 2017 model year car became one of the main premieres of Renault, however, given the high popularity of the compact van among motorists in many European countries, the developers did not radically change the overall concept of the car's appearance. However, when considering the car, there is no doubt that Renault's engineers and designers have worked hard to create a new generation of Scenic. Comparing the novelty with the predecessor model, it becomes obvious that the new Scenic has grown substantially in size. In addition, given the growing popularity of crossovers, the "Frenchman" tried on some of the features inherent in a car of this class.

In addition to the external update, the new generation of the compact van is distinguished by an abundance of modern electronics, as well as the installation of new power units under the hood of the car, including a low-voltage hybrid engine.

Appearance Renault Scenic 2017

The exterior of the Renault Scenic has all the family traits inherent in the exterior of modern Renault models. Thanks to this, the car does not look like a bus, reduced in size, but looks swift and expressive. Athleticism and some sporty touch to the compact van's appearance are brought by short front and rear overhangs, as well as large 20-inch wheels, which are fitted with low-profile tires.

The front of the car looks assertive and moderately aggressive. Here the compact MPV looks a lot like the new Megan, which is, rather, an advantage of the model. Attention is drawn to the beautiful headlights with stylish inserts of LED running lights, made in a C-shape. The car will look most impressive with the optional LED Pure Vision head optics. These headlights make the "look" of the car much more expressive.

Perhaps, the car looks especially original in profile. First of all, this is the three-section architecture of the side glazing of the body with a bizarre broken sill line of the rear doors. An unusual triangular glass insert at the front is designed to improve visibility from the driver's seat. Other exterior design features include a short but embossed hood, a heavily recessed windshield that blends seamlessly into the sloping roof and an almost vertical stern line.

The design of the rear of the car is worth mentioning separately. The compact fifth door looks more like the tailgate of a small crossover than a van. The taillights with an unusual three-dimensional pattern received LED filling and look very beautiful in the dark.


Speaking about the dimensions of the body of the new Renault Scenic, it should be noted an increase in the length and width of the car relative to the model of the previous generation:

  • the length of the novelty, adding 40 mm, was 4383 mm;
  • width increased by 20 mm to 1864 mm;
  • height - 1653 mm ;.
  • the distance between the wheel axles of the new "Frenchman" is 2734 mm.
  • the ground clearance of the novelty was 170 mm against the very road 130 mm of the previous generation of the car.


Thus, the developers decided to give their model more practicality in everyday use.

To add even more brightness to the new Renault Scenic 2017 model year, a new two-tone paintwork, which can be chosen for the car in any configuration, except for the basic one, should be added. In this case, the roof of the van is painted in black or gray "metallic".

If the attempts of the creators of the car to add the features of a crossover to the appearance of a familiar compact van can be called quite successful, then the organization of the interior space remained without any major changes. However, it was difficult to reproach the car of the previous generation for non-ergonomics or poor functionality of the interior. As with the previous version, the interior of the novelty is distinguished by speed and ease of transformation. There are no complaints about the seating comfort of the driver and front passenger. The front seats are equipped with an abundance of adjustments in all directions, and therefore people of any height and build will be able to adjust them "for themselves".

It was decided to significantly redraw the front panel, as a result of the changes, the instrument panel moved to a more traditional place behind the steering wheel. The main place on the center console is given to a large 9-inch display of the multimedia R-LINK 2 (for cars in the initial versions of the performance, a smaller 7-inch display is installed).

Between the front seats, the developers have provided for the presence of a comfortable sliding armrest, which covers a spacious 13-liter box. There is also a connector for recharging mobile gadgets. When the armrest is moved all the way forward, together with the tide of the console, it forms a central tunnel. By moving the armrest all the way back, there is free space between the front seats, in which even a small sports bag can be stowed.

It should be noted that the interior decoration of the car is characterized by an abundance of all kinds of niches, pockets and compartments for storing small things. According to official data published in a press release by the creators of the model, the total capacity of the compartments for small items is 63 liters. By the way, the glove box has not only good roominess (the novelty's glove compartment can hold 11.5 liters), but is also equipped with an electric drive system.

As for the main cargo capabilities of the car, they are realized with the help of a very roomy and convenient luggage compartment. The volume of the luggage compartment of the "Frenchman" varies from 496 to 572 liters, depending on the position of the rear seats, moving on a special slide forward or backward. By folding down the 40/60 split rear seat backrests, the luggage compartment volume can be increased by almost two and a half times. At the same time, the owner of the car gets a comfortable flat area of ​​the cargo compartment. The interior can be transformed using a button in the trunk or using a special function of the R-LINK 2 on-board system.

The technical characteristics of the new Renault Scenic are no less interesting. The car is built on the well-proven CMF platform used in the Megane and Talisman models. Since the specified platform is designed for the use of a front-wheel drive system, like the mentioned models, the new Scenic will be produced exclusively in a front-wheel drive version. Other features include the use of McPherson independent suspension at the front, as well as a semi-independent design including a twisting beam at the rear.

The car is equipped with anti-roll bars by default. As an option, you can order the installation of adaptive shock absorbers and a special system 4Control, which improves control of the machine's controllability. The rack and pinion steering gear is complemented by an electric power amplifier. Disc brakes are installed on the wheels of both axles.

The range of power units of the car is quite extensive.The choice of a potential owner of a compact van offers two gasoline and four diesel engines. In addition, the vehicle can be equipped with a hybrid engine based on the dCi diesel engine.

Two petrol engines - TCe engines with a working volume of 1.2 liters. Both engines have an in-line arrangement of four cylinders, a direct fuel injection system and a 16-valve timing. The senior gasoline engine develops a maximum power of 130 hp. at 205 Nm of torque. The initial petrol "four" produces a peak power of 115 hp. A 6-speed manual box is installed in a pair to gasoline engines.

The diesel engine range comprises four dCi units, two of which have a displacement of 1.5 liters. Two more diesel engines have a displacement of 1.6 liters. A car with an initial diesel unit does not differ in outstanding performance and dynamic performance. The maximum power of such a motor is 95 hp. The second 1.5-liter turbodiesel produces 110 hp. power.

More interesting are the Scenic versions equipped with two other diesel engines. 1.6-liter engines develop a maximum power of 130 and 160 horsepower. In tandem with diesel engines, with the exception of the flagship version, a 6-speed manual transmission is installed. The top diesel engine is mated to the latest EDC 6-speed automatic transmission equipped with a double clutch. You can also replace the mechanical box with an “automatic” on a car with a 110-horsepower diesel engine. True, as an alternative, the 7-band EDC unit is offered here.

The hybrid version of the car is equipped with a power plant organized according to a rather simple scheme: a 110-horsepower diesel engine complements a 10-kilowatt electric motor, which is powered by a 46-volt battery installed in the trunk.

Depending on the installed engine, the car has a different temperament. But even cars equipped with basic gasoline and diesel units can quite confidently accelerate from a standstill, with a maximum speed of 170 km / h. A compact MPV with diesel engines is especially good for long-distance travel, because, in addition to the advantages inherent in all cars with a similar body layout, Renault Scenic diesel engines of the fourth generation are distinguished by excellent fuel efficiency. According to the developers, a 110-horsepower diesel unit requires less than 5.5 liters of diesel fuel to overcome 100 km of track while driving on the highway.

Of course, the most dynamic car is with a top-end gasoline engine. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h for such a car takes just over 9 seconds, and the high-speed "ceiling" is fixed at around 200 km / h. True, the fuel consumption of a car with a 160-horsepower gasoline engine is the highest among all other van configurations. As real measurements show, to move in such a car around the city in a ragged rhythm, taking into account traffic jams and overtaking, it will take about 11.5 liters of fuel. On a country road, the car is not so "gluttonous" and consumes less than 8 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers.

The car will be offered in several versions. But even in the basic version, the "Frenchman" is well equipped. The engineers placed special emphasis on the convenience and functionality of the car's interior. So, at the disposal of the owner of the novelty can be front seats with an electric drive, adjustable lumbar support, heating and massage. Passengers of the rear sofa will receive folding tables, convenient and useful for travel, integrated into the backs of the front seats, connectors for connecting audio devices, a pair of USB ports, a convenient box and a 12-volt outlet.

Scenic safety

With regard to recent electronic driver assistance systems, Scenic will offer its owner: a pedestrian detection system that works when the car is moving at speeds up to 60 km / h, adaptive cruise control, a system for recognizing road markings and road signs, an electronic valet, as well as a system that monitors the level of the physical condition of the driver. The most advanced versions of the car are equipped with a head-up display and a vision system around the car.

The price of the new Scenic

There is no talk of official sales of the new Renault Scenic in Russia so far, since the concern plans to sell cars assembled in Russia in our country. But in Europe, the start of sales of new items is scheduled for the second half of May 2016. The starting price of the car starts at € 20,000.
