Audi has postponed development of its new V8 engines, replacing it with an improved, more powerful unit; Audi has postponed development of its new V8 engines, replacing it with an improved, more powerful unit.

According to representatives of the Audi company, about 25-35% of cars of this brand should have switched to fully electric or hybrid engines. The capacity of the new units would be stronger than the existing ones.

In connection with the expensive development of electronic motors and batteries for them, it was decided to temporarily suspend progress. Instead of the proposed new products, the new Audi SQ7 is equipped with a new turbocharged engine. The power of such a unit is 435 horses, with a forced modification, and the maximum torque is 900 Nm.

This unit on the new Audi model has two traditional turbochargers in the block, with a sequential circuit and one electric drive between the intake manifold and the intercooler. All in all, it is triple supercharged and paired with such a powerful eight-cylinder engine is an eight-speed automatic transmission. Together, they are able to accelerate the five-door car from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.7 seconds. In this case, the consumption according to passport data in the combined cycle will be 7.4 l / 100 km.

In addition to Audi cars, this engine and its modifications will also be installed on the second generation Porsche Panamera, the new Cayenne and subsequent new Bentley cars.

Yet the engineers do not stop and do not go away from the idea of creating the most economical electric motor or hybrid, while with a good power reserve on batteries. Many Audi cars are now equipped with, though not the newest, but powerful and economical hybrid engines. The resumption of development is planned from the beginning of 2017, now the engineers have made a bias towards the latest models of the existing units.
