The first Phantom cars from Skoda are already in Ukraine. Special vehicles for the police, equipment, technical characteristics, parameters, features of the car.

Many are already accustomed to the Prius, on which the Ukrainian police drive through the streets and on intercity highways. Even a simple white civilian Toyota Prius can sometimes be mistaken for a police crew. As a rule, seeing such a car, the driver tries to adhere to the rules, but as soon as there is no patrol on the horizon, all the rules become unwritten and a sign 3.42 "End of all prohibitions and restrictions" automatically works in his head.

Now in Ukraine there will be new cars, or rather special cars "Phantom" for police crews and the first 4 copies have already been brought to the country. The basis for the creation of this instance was the Skoda Kodiaq crossover. Outwardly, the phantom looks like a regular copy of a dark gray color and is no different from the serial version, but inside it is a modified model.

Under the hood of this "Phantom" is a turbocharged gasoline engine with a volume of 2.0 liters. The DSG robotic transmission works in tandem. But the highlight is hidden behind the radiator grill, it is here that there are a pair of flashing LED beacons, to be more precise, right under the chrome edging of the radiator grill. A couple of the same LED beacons are hidden under the windshield and on the glass of the trunk lid. Paired with the beacons, a siren will work, hidden behind the same radiator grill, which turns on simultaneously with the beacons, in case an intruder is detected.

If you believe the statements of the police, the system will be able to:

  • to recognize double numbers, which are often used on cars;
  • fix violations;
  • recognize stolen vehicles;
  • automatically check for the insurance of the car owner.

According to preliminary data, the cost of 4 Phantom cars amounted to UAH 3.7 million, although a week earlier the price was announced at UAH 2.8 million ($ 99290). So far, this is a test batch, which should show how effective and expedient the use of such phantom cars on the roads of Ukraine will be. In the future, in a year, they plan to purchase about 125 more similar cars, while they will be of different brands and models, not only Skoda Kodiaq.

It is worth noting that Phantoms will not work normally, patrolling an urban area or suburban roads. It will rather be chaotic movement, including places of automatic speed fixing. At the moment the Phantom moves, the system will recognize passing and oncoming vehicles, measure their speed and monitor traffic rules on the road.

In other words, the new technology has received good intelligence, which means it will be more difficult to prove your innocence of the violation. Phantoms were specially made for production models, thereby further setting drivers to comply with the rules of the road. When these 4 phantoms of the Skoda Kodiaq will enter the first service, they have not yet specified, but it is clear that the first fines will become known almost immediately after the start of their work.
